Totally agree with your comments Doug, can't stand facebook, a load of people with no lives to live, and the other scroungers for information are the same, enough of my personal details are held by the Inland Revenue, (nuff said)😊

Hi Doug, I do appreciate that not everyone uses, or is on fakebook.
Because no one had said either way and I had seen that video very recently, it was easy to find and powertrain wise, uninformative.
No offence taken and apologies for the way I put my reply.

Now now gentleman. C’mon, no shananagans please. I don’t want to be causing heated discussions on engines. I appreciate all your comments and thanks for the link Will 👍😉. A lot of these boats on YouTube seem a bit too fast and therefore a bit unstable when turning ?

Don't panic Will, all contributions are gratefully received👍
I was simply pointing out (in my Old Admiral irascible / jocular fashion😁) that many of us do not use Facebook or similar. Not digging at you!🤔
So if there is some other way you can post the video or a link (U-Toob?) ...
How bonkers Si wants to go with his boat is of course entirely up to him!
All the best, Doug 😎

Well, I didn't see anyone else offering any suggestions of motive power for this boat.
I was only trying to help.

Unfortunately Will to view the video on that link it demands that you sign in to a Facebook account. Which I do not have and NEVER will have.
There are more than enough hackers phishing for our personal details without serving them up on a Silver Facebook platter!
Much the same goes for Twitter and all the other 'Look what I had for breakfast ... Hey it's me again, I'm on the bus to work' etc etc sites and Apps.
I was involved in the early development of Cellular and similar software, and could see then where the 'Reserved for future development' blocks in the data telegrams were heading!

Hiya Doug,

It was merely one suggestion of a set up that going by the video works.

I do however totally agree with what you are saying. Keeping cost down and reducing fire risk is also a huge benefit to a lower voltage and current set up.

Cheers Will, I’ve tried to watch the video but it won’t play on my iPad, so I’ll try and search for it on model boats ?
Cant wait to see it now lol. Problem is, I don’t want it silly fast but want it fast, if you can understand my nonsense lol 🤣

??
Where's the vid Mad? ☹️
Personally I would prefer to go with lower volts (max 3S) and higher kV, circa 1000 -1500.
And a three blade prop approx 1.1 pitch. Diameter approx same as motor can size (also for brushless diameter).
Sea Queen isn't an Offshore Power Boat racer and the lower voltage source and higher kV rating should help to reduce the current flowing, and associated fire risk, and still give decent (not ridiculous) performance. Should also mean that the motor and ESC are cheaper, stay cooler, and the run time longer😉
(A (single?) two blade prop on an ELCO PTB!!? Well really! 😮 Philistine! Gadzooks Sir!😠

p.s, there are enough people running brushless motors and lipo batteries in all different sized model boats, if you search for Sea Queen and read through the posts that come up, somewhere along the line, someone will make a suggestion on what to use, or what they use in their Sea Queen, or similar sized vessel.

Brushless would by far give you the best of both worlds, as in power and duration.
As for what motor to use, I haven't worked that out for my own yet to be honest. It would need to be a pretty large diameter outrunner, with a relatively low kv, definitely less than 1000 (from what I can make out anyway). That way, it would produce enough torque to swing a decent enough sized prop. Then you would need to decide upon what batteries you intend on using, to give you the voltage and therefore, the RPM needed to make it perform (kv x voltage = free running rpm)

Cheers Colin, Rick and everyone else who’s commented. I’m thinking a brushless motor. Would it need to be water cooled as i can leave in the pipe work and modify if needed. I do have 2 brushed Graupner 700bb Turbo motors fitted in my Rapier. (Picture Attached) That really does get going. What would you recommend on a boat if this size. Sorry if I haven’t replied to you all individually, I can’t seem to work that out on here yet ?

Cheers

Simon 👍

Cheers Bill, yes lots of room, it’s a big boat. More sanding tomorrow and I’ll take out the knackered rudder and pipe work. I also have a hole in the hull to repair so that’s my list of priorities so far 😉

Well Doug that's quite an accolade on my restoration abilities. It's just what I enjoy doing, all vintage boats deserve to be kept seaworthy, and enjoyed.
And this old lady is definitely a Sea Queen and I am glad to offer guidance and information wherever possible.
Cheers Colin.

Hi Sifi,
Your blog dose not have to be a full build type just more like a progress log.

If you start it in the Build log section then you can add to it as and when.
Starting the log is just the same as you have done to start this thread.

If it looks right it probably is.

Cheers Everyone for your kind comments, it’s much appreciated. I’ll put some more pics on here later of the inside, lots of room in there. It will probably take me a while to complete, finances permitting, But I’ll get there. I just may bend your ears from time to time. Don’t know about a Blog Doug. Never done anything like that before lol. 😀

Sure looks like a Sea Queen to me too Sifi 👍

Depending on condition, and completeness, it could be worth anything from 40 to 400 quid!
But our absolute expert here on original Lesro boats is undoubtedly Colin_H.
He has restored many of them.
I have only restored, and upgraded to brushless one, a Lesro Sea Scout.
Built by my Dad in the early sixties. See my Blog at
https://model-boats.com/blogs/28209
to see the techniques and materials I used.
Attached pics show before and after!
I'm sure that Colin can add to and improve on my novice efforts 👍
Good luck with your restore Sifi.
If you get stuck, we're here! 😉
Cheers, Stay safe, Doug 😎
PS Here's a Sea Queen under way 😀

And here's a guy doing a Show & Tell of his Sea Queen restoration. Enjoy!

Purchased an old Boat today

Hi Everyone, I purchased this tired old girl today and hope to turn back the years and get her looking good again. It’s about 48 inches long and looks like a “Sea Queen” but I’m no expert so maybe some of you may be able to advise. It looks a really old example? It does have a small hole in the bottom but I’ll get that sorted out. I want to try and make her look as nice as possible. I’m also going to keep her original name and try and save the lettering that’s there. Bad luck to change a boats name, or so I’m told lol

My plan is to sand her all down, re paint and fit a brushless motor but which one I have no idea ? There is nothing fitted internally atm so I’ll paint the inside to make it look nice and clean. Lots of work to do so I better continue sanding, I’ve done one side already 😂
