Emma only requires 4 frames inside the hull, it can also be built smaller as well but Gary prefers people to follow his proven designs. I created Emily along the same design as Emma, but smaller which requires less space to move it to the pond, and on the shelf in the shop.

Are you aware of Gary’s YouTube videos?
Or the Australian group who sails a variety of Gary’s boats. The group if builders in Australia are avid builders and take many liberties with the designs by adding more sail area, and methods to haul in the sheets.

Check out Mal at shipshaper on YouTube

If you’re interested I can pass along both Gary’s and Mal’s emails to you.

Firdt two are Gary Webb

Next are Emily my latest sailboat

That epoxy system you are using has very potent chemicals that smell up your house or shop. Switching to Titebond requires clamping but it has no odour and is soap and water clean-up when you get it on your hands. The epoxy method requires multiple pairs of latex gloves.

Might I suggest you build Emma before you tackle the Flyer. Emma is Gary Webbs first sailboat in the bearospaceindustries.com

Series of his projects get progressively more complex.

Is your sailing area clear of aquatic vegetation? Many sailing ponds, lakes, canals are being clogged by vegetation.

If you find yourself in that situation, you will need to change the bulb design so it doesn’t become entangled.

My Emma is the Blue one. Gary’s is the white version. My sails are cotton poplin sewn by my wife, though I now sew my own.

Wood Glue

Hello from Canada,

What is your name? I am Ron Bauer and my question to you is:

What glue are you using to build your model?

I use Titebond III

From the Manufacturer
Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue. An advanced, proprietary technology that offers the best possible performance in woodworking glues. This waterproof formula passes the ANSI/HPVA Type 1 water-resistance specification and offers superior bond strength, longer open assembly time and lower application temperature. Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue is non-toxic, solvent free and cleans up with water - safer to use than traditional waterproof wood glues. It provides strong initial tack, sands easily without softening and is FDA approved for indirect food contact (cutting boards). The ultimate in wood glues - ideal for both interior and exterior applications.
