Yes she has been sailing a number of times.Boat number 623 has been sprayed on since this photo was taken and she carries the Norweign flag based on a photo I have.
I probably scratch built 95% of the fittings.Example the .50 m/c guns in tubs beside bridge are from small jewellers screwdrivers to show cooling flutes in barrel.

I have the 46inch fibre glass hull version I use a brush motor direct drive onto an x45 prop powered by a 12volt 7ah jelly cell battery with 15amp series fuse using relay switch for fwd rev, runs really fast planing until battery power falls but cant get any where near the 40 mins jelly_baby gets using lipo cells my visits to the lakes when I lived in Bedford consisted of getting the boat to the lake then 6 12v 7ah charged batteries being carried from the car.

HI DeltaTango01 using the same motor and Prop (45mm 3 Blade Brass) with a direct drive I found that the amp draw was excessive and this made the run time very short. but by fitting a 3:1 reduction gearbox I retained the speed and dropped the amps used by the motor it was running much more efficiently. Thats why I think the run time Improved. I sail on a sunday morning from about 10.30 to 12.30 on 2 x 11.1 5100mAh lipo's and 2 x 4.8v 3700 mAh NiMh in series (9.6V). HI Dave thanks for comment, Cwmbran are certainly a friendlyand helpfull bunch and I'll be joining their club along with my wife, as she's now got a boat restoration of her own to do.(FAIREY HUNTSMAN 1/12th scale)

trouble is an86 mile round trip to do testing runs on safe water at Cwmbran.

HI Colin, This is a big thank you for your families help at Cwmbran last wednesday, if it had not been for your sons help my Sea Commander on its first run would probably be at the bottom of the lake. it's dry now but will need major work on it as some of the plywood has delaminated slightly. The motor, Receiver and servo work but the speed controller I think has died. I look forward to your next visit, on Sunday I sailed my 40 year old 34 inch Fairey Huntsman and think that I have at last got it to run reasonably well. Graham J from Cwmbran Club

Sorry but No, This boat has not yet been on display anywhere as not yet completely finished, merely undergoing "sea trials" to check ballasting and seaworthyness if you get my meaning, as due to its flat bows, it is not the smoothest of vessels to steer, or if given too much throttle it heaves a lot of water over the bows.

Deans do a range of raf launches under their fast launches section. They do a 1/24th fire boat within this for about A£120. I built one of these a couple of years ago. Not the best quality kit in the world but with some skill and rework makes a good model. I put a 18owatt 1100 kv brushless od 7. 2 volts and a 35mm x prop in mine and it flies. Let me know if you need any info on these boats.

Hope you are well. Finally got my boat on the water at the weekend (Fleetwood Scale & Power weekend) and I was quite pleased with things, however it does keep blowing fuses so I will re-wire and see if that helps other wise I am flumoxed.
I am considering converting it to 2 props though to be more true to the original boats and wondered if you had any tips and internal/external pictures of your 46 for me to look at.

Thanks for your response.I agree Deans are not the best quality kits and the destructions are vague to say the least.Pity anyone who chooses a Deans as a first venture into boat building it could put them off for life!
When we had a problem with a part of the MTB 77 instructions a call to Ron Dean bought the reply ,ignore that bit, those plans apply to several boats!
Having said that I would not hesitate to purchase a Deans kit in future as I am confident that I can overcome any problems that may arise with the help of good people like youself and the experience already gained.In any case if it was easy it would'nt be worth doing in my opinion.

It is a "Model Slipway" Kit and is listed on their web site ( www.modelslipway.com ) as Yorkshireman as this was the sister tug. The basic kit costs about A£270 and running gear, bow thrusters, fire monitors and radio gear costs about another A£250. The kit is really for those with modelling experience as it has a few challenges for the inexperienced. Hope this helps

I'll get some pictures when I next see it as it is kept at my Mums place in the NE where the lake at the Tynemouth club is big enough to take it given its speed and size. if you are blowing fuses, make sure you haven't over greased the shaft. I did that once and really only a light greasing of the inner shaft and some light oil on the bearings is all that is required. Also try a smaller prop. You may not get any reduction in Speer as the motor may rev faster and at lower amps. I've just taken the 50mm 3 blade brass props off mine and put 45mm 2 blade plastic racing props on and she runs faster and smoother. Hope this helps.
