Demo of W-Tail mixer to control two motors and rudder
I'm getting an 'Invalid File Type' message when I try to upload the MP4 video file of all the equipment working. I think the file might be too big at 119Mb? ! Consequently I've just put a photo of the setup because I've been unable to delete my post!

"Whaleback" Freighter
I know this is not one of my boats, but belongs to one of our club members. It is a 1/48 scale model of a "whaleback" freighter. The real George Washburn was built in 1885 had a length of 320 feet. What is unique about this is it had a almost tubular cross-section hull. Many times I heard visitors call it a submarine.

Jim's model includes horn sound, lights, homemade smoke generator and a ballast fill/empty system to reduce transportation weight. Video Link (this is not on YouTube, you have to copy this link to your browser to see the video): http://ssmbc-fl.org/Videos/Video-03-30-2014-01.mp4 (😮The link icon below WILL NOT WORK!😮)

I though some of you might enjoy this wonderful scratch built model!

Ron, I will not go into too much detail on Jim. He is retired, in his early 70's, and has building models since before I met him about 12 years ago. He doesn't bother with computers too much but enjoys his Canon digital cameras.

The story of building the model of the "Whaleback" seems to stem from where is lived many years ago up in the great lakes area of the U.S.

Jim is a laid-back person and deeply interested in building his models. Most of them are 1/48 scale, but in recent years he took a turn and started going after some complicated kits, some out of production for many years, like Sterling kits he found on Ebay. Other recent builds include some WWII battleships, plastic models that are motorized for RC.

One unique thing about Jim is all (I believe) of his models involve gear reduction between the motor(s) and shaft(s). He hand makes small parts where many people will avoid the small details. Here is a video of one of his other models, the City Of Buffalo:

There are a lot of photos of his work on our website... http://ssmbc-fl.org

In Polish magazine "Modelarstwo Okretowe", there is a plan available for such a whaleback design (http://www.modelarstwookretowe.pl/index.php?p=19&s=numer_opis&id_n=38 ).
Maybe it could be of help...

RC Maiami, a bit of fun on the estuary
Just a simple model I built for my son about 14yrs ago. He wasn't interested (more into computers) so I use it for the salt water. Just a brass shaft and 12v high speed 380 motor, runs quite well. Ran it to try out the new 4K camera, (set on 1920x1080) but had to convert the vid from MOV to MP4 to edit it, so it reduced the clarity a bit. At least it doesn't have a blurry bit in the middle of the lens like my 10yr old one. have to figure out a better way, (or get a better editor)

This might be clearer

MP4 is supported if it's not to large BW,
It may appear as an 'Invalid File' but will still work.
It will be renamed an .mpg4 file but still work on a WIN 10 PC and Media Player.
What happens when you try to upload it?
Very nice looking boat BTW👍 I see she has had a baby😉
Trailer looks interesting too. Can we have a closer look please.
    Cheers, Doug 😎

Two boats with one transmitter
Finally managed to get this to come out the right way up on You Tube (didn't like MP4,- came out upside down). Running the 2 boats from an HK 6ch 2.4 radio (slight crash and jostling by the Maiami at the start) . You'll get sick of it in a few minutes and fall asleep but I've put it up anyhow😁 If this doesn't make you seasick, nothing will!😊 Hit a Koi carp (Chinese sub) at 3.01!

    "Koi carp (Chinese sub)"
Er ... that's the JDF, Japanese Defence Force sub JB.
Didn't get seasick, but it did 'make me eyes go funny' 🤓
This can never work for more than a minute or two cos you'd need to have absolutely identical performance of ESCs, motors and rudders (perhaps also hull forms) in both boats.
I tried it once with my destroyer and Sea Scout - no chance!
Had more luck 'escorting' a same scale (1/72) Flower Class corvette around the lake in the Olympia Park, Munich ca 3 decades ago 😉

This vid is cut down from around 20 mins Doug. Each boat is totally independent of the other as one is on the left stick using one RX (elevator and rudder channels) and the other on the right stick using a second RX (throttle and aileron channels)
I think everyone has the idea that they are on the same stick? The eyes do go a bit wonky as the camera is only a small keychain camera (pre Go Pro days) which we used to mount on planes etc, and the boat movements are quick.
You can always change the playback speed (on the left of the You Tube logo)
JB PS I'm sure I saw a red star on that carp!
