124 posts · Page 1 of 11While vacationing off the coast of South Carolina on Kiawah Island I wandered over to a marina on John's Island and saw this beauty. It's a 62' Viking Sport Yacht. Her hull is made of fiberglass, with a beam of 18' 11" (5.77m), a draft of 5' 2" (1.58m). Top speed...42 Knots! Yow! 4 Staterooms and 3 heads doesn't hurt either.
Honestly, I'm not so sure the owner has ever "wet-a-line" off of this $3,100,000 beauty, but I am positive that the bar is well stocked. Either way she is a beautiful beast!

- Chum444Rear AdmiralHey Jump. Now you’re talking about my favorite class of boats. One sees many of these locally; some actually fish but most are “nailed to the dock”. The ones that don’t fish are owned by someone who simply appreciates their appearance or wants to look like they fish. A boat this size typically has a full time captain as the owner can certainly afford that luxury.
Today, these “battle wagons” have been largely replaced by large center console sport fishers equipped with multiple 4 cycle outboards. These boats are more economical at high speeds & more maneuverable when a fish is on the hook. The boat you photographed at 42 kts would burn well over 100 gallons of diesel per hour. Even though you don’t see as many of these on the offshore fishing grounds I still love em. Largest I ever ran was a 47 ft Buddy Davis.(An exceptional one-time opportunity). The Vikings are known for their quality of construction & are very good sea boats.
Thanks for posting. - Chum444Rear AdmiralLocal boat with its white marlin catch in August.Liked by hermank and AlessandroSPQR
The model is 1/72 scale, 3ft long. I have some figures to stick on yet as well as the torpedo davits and the ship's boats.
The model has twin electric motors and is controlled by a Flysky 10 channel radio. The motors can be run synchronized or independent, selected with one of the switches. The left knob rotates the forward gun and the other knob rotates the torpedo tubes.
The model is entirely scratch built. Fiberglass sheathing balsa for the hull. The funnels and cowl vent are 3d printed to my files. I now have a 3d printer which I'm sure will make many fitting for future models.
For those who missed the build blog way back, the model is 36", glass over strip planked balsa, has twin 28mm 2000kv inrunners with twin 60A car escs, twin GT Power sound units, a smoke and water exhaust system (developed by myself and Graham 96, -which he and Mike Turpin successfully fitted to their excellent fireboats) and lighting. Uses 2 -2s 2200mah LiPos for the motors, and an 1800mah 2s LiPo for the air and water pumps.
Boat was shipped to the RNZAF in 1940 and was eventually sold to a private owner in the late 50s. It is still around in Auckland after suffering 3 major modifications to the coamings, and is now fully airconditioned, and can be operated from an I Pad. Today powered with a Detroit 8V96 in place of twin Grey Marine (Detroit) 671s, which replaced the 3 original Napier sea lions. Did 38knts with the 3 Napiers, (1500hp) and does 22knots today with a single 500hp Detroit. It was the only one of the 22 built to be sold in the southern hemisphere. The only other one running is HSL 102 in the UK
I have been on board once in 1968 when it was still in original form, and then again 50yrs later in its' present form.

- RonBMK2Petty Officer 1st ClassI had the same thing years ago on the lakes in Bushy Park (Hampton Court) I was first time testing a Blue Devil Destroyer. It took a hit on the stern (believed to be by a pike) and she stopped and slowly sank stern first , just like the reel thing.☹️I hope your damage was'nt to bad.Liked by Dumaspittman
Graham's boats are scratch-built onto fibreglass hulls.
My boats are totally scratch-built.
it is best viewed on a larger screen in HD.
- StephenSRecruitBrilliant. Best war film I've seen in years.
My mtb's of mtb 389. Built 40 odd years ago and left in the loft where it collected dust and soot. When I retired I brought it down, fitted a Graupner 700 motor in and ran it on 14.4v. It plains very realistic. Thanks for the video...👍

Built from lines drawings purchased from the designer Frank Russell.
Neville hand laminated the hull in epoxy glass, and the fin and rudder in epoxy carbon. Hull finished in cellulose paint.
