My old Lindberg model of the USS Melvin DD 680 has sunk at least twice in the model boat pond at Spencers, so I've decided to add about 1/2 inch to the bottom of the hull. It's an experiment. I think if the hull is a little bigger, the wind won't tip it over. I also upgraded the motor & rudder servo. Hope my experiment works.P/S seemed to work in the tub. I need to get it working properly as CMM Modelers is having a Warship Regatta at Spencer's Sunday,Sept 14th at 9 AM till noon

I am inserting some photos of the Amerigo Vespucci Italian Navy training ship.
Many details can be useful for static and dynamic modeling.
In any case it was a pleasant visit, I took advantage of the fact that it stopped at the port of Civitavecchia
Here is some information about the ship.
"The Amerigo Vespucci is a sailing ship of the Italian Navy, built in 1931 in Castellammare di Stabia (NA), as a training ship for the training of officer cadets of the normal roles of the Naval Academy of Livorno.
From 1946 to 1952 it was the only sailing training ship of the Italian Navy until the entry into service of the Ebe, a brigantine schooner purchased by the Navy in 1952 and which had been built in 1921. Starting in 1955 it was joined by another sailing ship purchased from France and renamed Palinuro. Currently the Amerigo Vespucci is the oldest ship of the Italian Navy still in service.
On the occasion of the 1960 Rome Olympics, the Amerigo Vespucci transported the Olympic flame by sea from Piraeus to Syracuse.
Some sources report an anecdote, which dates back to the meeting that took place in July 1962 in the Mediterranean with the US aircraft carrier USS Independence, according to which the latter would have flashed its light signal: "Who are you?", receiving in response: "Training ship Amerigo Vespucci, Italian Navy". The US ship would then have signaled: "You are the most beautiful ship in the world"
In 1992, among other things, it participated in the Columbiadi, a large regatta organized on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus.
It also participated in the Tall Ships' Race in 2000, the competition that compares the Tall Ships, the tall-masted sailing ships of the training ships from all over the world.
In six months, the Amerigo Vespucci traveled over 10,000 miles, arriving second, behind the German Gorch Fock.
The training ship also participated in The Tall Ships' Races 2007 Mediterranea.

This is Creepy,a springer tug that is 5 yrs old now.He pushes #1200lb pumpkins for the pumpkin regatta along with saving many of the PMPBA club members boats from certain sinking or floating away.I never go to any of the club floats without him.He runs a Harbor freight 550 motor running a Target Hobby 320amp ESC,on a 5000mah 2s lipo battery. The plans can be downloaded free off the internet and takes about a week to build for the experienced builder,Great for the new boat builders to do because its an easy build tug.Simple door skins, some balsa,1/2a running gear from Dumas,1.5 brass prop,2x2 rudder from aluminum, cheap 2channel radio,ESC from Target Hobby.

Recently built from an Aeronaut kit, this is a 1/24th scale Pilot Boat based on a German design. Powered by two 540 brushed motors with 3 bladed brass props it attains something like scale speed. The colour is Volkswagen Bright Orange, courtesy of Halfords and the non-slip deck is acrylic green mixed with silver sand then covered with a silk finish varnish.
The boat was filmed at an illuminated regatta staged by Bournville Model Yacht and Power Boat Club on their lake in Bournville, Birmingham

Hi Colin
Yes, I did brush paint the deck with an inexpensive acrylic.
The sand mix was trial and error. I started off with a thin mix and gradually added more sand, testing it on scraps of plastic, until I was happy.
A brushed coat of satin varnish waterproofed and added to the realism.
Best of luck.

Our July, 2016 Fun Float was a great success! The weather was perfect and we had a great number of spectators, met a few new Captains who just came to sail with us and see what we are about! We had up to 6 scale sail boats on the water and several powered boats. We were also experimenting with "on board video" which we are setting to music and commentary. Even the wives enjoyed the day of great weather, a snack bar, walking trails and each others company. There was even talk about relocating our regatta to the "Muddy Run" location.

Finally managed to put a little film together of my 1.24 Grey Goose taken at the Herne bay regatta. As well as the usual turning guns, lights and ship sounds this boat fires working torpedo's using a CO2 gas system. Will be putting some film of this on youtube shortly.
If your interested I'll be exhibiting at the Southern Model show this weekend and will demonstrate the torpedo system at the show. Hope to see you there.
