Portishead

I remember Portished Radio (call sign used to be Golf Kilo Alpha) very well having used its maritime services on a regular basis in the early 70’s.
In its heyday they employed over 180 Radio Officers. It was the largest and busiest Maritime transmission/receiving station in the world.
It closed in 2000 I believe.
These days you can do all they used to do using radios the size of your fridge on your mobile phone in seconds.
Regards Bill.
Never give up.It will come right in the end.

Hi Jim
Yes I'm up on the top where The radio station was. Sailing still but not with the club. Still free parking to but that is in Jeopardy they did close the esplanade off to cars during the first lockdown. Do you still visit👍
