Thought I'd try for another vid to try and improve on the previous efforts. Had another still day and good tide, so went down to the estuary again. Bit of a mission again,- competing with a few 100% boats and the steep slippery ramp. Truck didn't do a lot better than the jeep, and it weighs about twice as much and has a 4x4 rear, but at least it managed to get the boat out of the water. Forgot to take a 2s for the thermostatic fan for the truck motor, so it got a bit hot and faded towards the end. A lot of work for a 550 geared motor !
Still getting used to the new editor so the vid's a bit scrappy. Almost impossible on a weekend to find the right space with no people, but there is not a lot of choice without going for miles. Fun trying to drive 2 vehicles,- truck doesn't have a handbrake like the jeep, so a bit tricky backing down the ramp. Whole outfit is 1.5m long, and weighs around 12kg.

I’d be happy to come and be your assistant, provided you could afford my airfare 😂
It would be possible, I think, to operate both models from one Tx by adding some custom electronics to each model. This would need to operate like an RC switch controlled from a spare channel. One one model, the ‘switch’ would connect the servos and ESC to the Rx whilst at the same time on the other model, a switch would disconnect the servos and ESC. Operating the spare channel would reverse the state of the switches to allow the other model to be controlled.

Alligator boats were a type of amphibious vehicle used in the forestry industry throughout Ontario, Quebec, the Maritime provinces of Canada and the northern United States from the mid-19th century to the beginning of the 20th century

WIKIPEDIA has a great write up about this style of boat .But there isn't any explanation about how it got it's name . Maybe Ontario Canada had alligators 100 years ago & we ate them all up & Great with a beaver burger to .

"Maybe Ontario Canada had alligators 100 years ago & we ate them all up"
and you all wear croc skin boots since then I suppose😉
"there isn't any explanation about how it got it's name"
Sorry, can't accept that so I dug around a bit, as usual
Turns out that Norfolk County have a restored Alligator boat, albeit a later version with screw, so I checked out their Heritage site-
and the solution is ...
"Dubbed the “alligator” because of its amphibious nature, ..."
i.e. because of it's ability to winch itself across land between lakes 😮
Seek and ye shall find😉
I much prefer your version with paddle wheels though👍
Cheers, Doug 😎 https://www.norfolkcounty.ca/living/heritage-culture/alligator-tug/

Short vid of 2nd handbrake test with a 3kg load (simulating boat) works well, vehicle pulls it up the ramp no trouble, (end cut as cam batt ran out)

Jb,
The weather looked nice so I think you just like driving around with the trailer on the back. LOL!!
Or was it a case of "Dam I forgot to pack the boat"

Martin, the bumper sticker says, "if you can read this, I've lost the boat"😁, It was lots of fun
playing and an excuse to get outside after the rain..😁

I wanted to try the driveshaft brake I'd recently fitted and thought I might as well do it on an actual ramp. This ramp has around a 30deg slope so it was a good spot for a test. Tried it with just the trailer first, (don't want my boat model disappearing down the ramp at high speed) and it worked well. I've done another vid where I but a 3kg water bottle on the trailer to simulate the weight of the boat, and that also worked well (although it's a bit scary when 13lbs starts rolling down the ramp backwards.
Lost the trailer a few times going over a big join in the ramp ( forgot the tow ball lock nut) so had a few goes to get it right. I was surprised how well a piece of string round the driveshaft could hold that weight so easily. Only negative is that it's not as good in forward, (would need another wound the opposite hand on the shaft) but that's not as important as reverse control. Still waiting for the weather and tides so I can try another launch. This ramp's not bad, but a little rough !

Crew billets still to be decided, awaiting delivery of seamen gunners for 50cals, however pilot in wheelhouse with some passengers aboard.
Drivers and opo in truck to be completed, vehicle is also rc, so can be driven off when ramp lowered at designated location.

Of all the data files on the Crash Boat I have not ever seen any details/ drwgs for the vehicle specifically used to transport the Crash Boat types ( Ie the British Power Boat co ) had transporters for their craft. Anyway I enclose a picture of the OFFICIAL English designed TRANSPORTER vehicle for the Crash Boat and a photo of verification as modelled by Peter Dimberline. I have kept my model stock standard, still have the original plastic red Graupener prop of old I think it is a 30 with a nick or two. Soft copper brake tubing pipe (1/8 I/d) is only around the head and one of the inline exhaust resonators has a water tube outer casing to cool the exhaust piping and inner tube gas temperature which takes out the energy/heat of the exhaust gas and dramatically reduces noise. Hope my hints help .All the best Lyle.

First the special colour you want, then the shrink varnish over it.
Thanks for your idea . . .
