Hi Roy, thanks for the welcome. I have a son in Sydney (Navy). He too loves sailing and as a family we have been involved in some ways for over 30 years. He has just purchased a Weta trimaran, sailing and racing it on Sydney Harbour.
A little different for me living in Toowoomba, Qld, where we sail and race Rc on a small and shallow lake. Still, totally enjoyable. Look forward to following your posts and enjoy your time in Australia.

Thanks Roycv
I understand the balance, like two, different weight, kids on a tetter-totter.
What I was missing was the force of the wind in the sails.
I have:
my centre of effort
my centre of buoyancy
lateral centre of pressure
I need to finish off the actual weight of model (the weight of all the remaining pieces to be installed)
I need to work out the metacentric height, to keep it in the safe range. My ballast weight is near fixed, by design, so my only variable is fin length
Thanks again
Ross

Thanks. Yes the builder died and his wife asked for a friend to sell some of his builds. I know he was working on a special project as it’s not a kit but all hand cut pieces. Good quality wood too; since getting it the entire hull is now sealed and the exterior is fibreglass cloth applied. Did some on the inside too where the planks were a bit open.
The centreboard was hinged below the waterline and I knew water would come through the hole. I plugged it and moved the hole up above the waterline by 1/2”.

The fella was using ripstop nylon for his model, though he didn’t follow the warp guidelines for making the sail. Warp parallel with the Leech.
My go to guy, Gary Webb, has said that ripstop will not form the sail airfoil, like cotton poplin would do. Quoting him, “One big difference between them is that the cotton poplin is somewhat stretchy while the rip stop nylon is not. By orientation of the warp of the cotton fabric (parallel to the leech of the sail) I rely on this stretching to let the sail develop a shape (airfoil). The rip stop nylon sail must be made up of shaped panels to build the airfoil into the sail.”
What are your thoughts?

Garth posted these photos earlier regarding his sail servo needing a longer control arm. When I saw the servo he has in there I knew it couldn’t handle the torque of the sails. I responded accordingly with recommendations for two other servos and that I had switched over to new servos in my fleet of sailboats.
He has HS 322HB in there.

I heard from Garth this morning on my bauerron@yahoo.com
He said he would look into it but didn’t want to spend much money.
He might be looking to sell it, and let the new owner upgrade it.
Roy a good morning to you
