Re: Caltex Lumba-Lumba

It’s all good Roy! If I can get it done for a few bucks I’ll put it in the mail if not it’s OK too. Best – - Guy

Re: ReSmall motor

Roy!
I am so happy! Truth be told, I just couldn’t resist, and like the tortoise in the hare, every now and again I get like the tortoise in the determination department!!! 😂
Enjoy! How it could ever propel a boat as big as a 31 inch sport fisherman is beyond me…and the of us I’m sure! 🤣🤣😯

planking nails

Roy,

The Bluenose II mention galvanized steel spikes in the video,

This was my choice. 19 rows up each side, and 34 ribs, one "nail" per rib to plank joint, tedious. . . The one pound box was full when I started. . .

Re: BLOCK COEFFICIENT

Good Day Roy,

I am using BLOCK COFFICIENT to quickly check if I am still heading in the right direction.
I am finding a BLOCK COEFFICIENT of around 0.18. Do you think that is possible for a full keeled schooner?

Full sized BLUENOSE:

LWL: 112 FEET
DRAFT: 15 & 10 INCHES
BEAM: 27 FEET
DISPLACEMENT: 285 TONS

@ WATER DENSITY: 64 OR 62.4 POUNDS/ CUBIC FOOT

BLOCK COEFFICIENT: 0.186404 ??

Am I doing something wrong??

Thanks

Ross

Re: BLOCK COEFFICIENT

Haven't seen it. The Gloucesters' were very similar to the bluenosers

Re: BLOCK COEFFICIENT

I knew the cod were down. The Canadian government stopped all cod fishing for years. I didn't know it was at 2%. There were ancient stories of fishing boats having to slow down to get through the schools of cod.

Bluenose 2 was built in 1963. It has been torn apart and rebuilt to maintain it as a tourist attraction by the Nova Scotia government.

I have found an error in my calculations, that vastly overstated the volume. I am working on a correction

Thanks

Hi roycv. Many thanks for all your help on my first build in probably 40 years! Having just turned 86 I find this forum just too difficult to navigate and I certainly cannot afford monthly fees to get rid of the hundreds of adds!!
I will therefore not be posting very often but just. wanted to thank you again.
I have printed out all your advice and will use it as and when.
Hope you don't mind me messaging you. Maybe I could just talk to you via this message service?

Computer engineer

Hi Roy, Just noticed from one of your comments that I presume you use to be a computer engineer. I used to work for ICL and just wondered if you worked for the same company. I eventually worked as a contract trainer for HP, Sun, Sequent to name a few.
Got the final coat of white onto the Bruma need to draw the waterline and then paint the bottom red. Slow progress. My wife has fractured 3 vertebrates in her spine with a fall in the house. Therefore I'm having to do everything at the moment so not much time for modelling! Original plan was for it to be ready for Blackpool show but that is now highly unlikely. Have a good day. Cheers Duncan

Re: Computer engineer

Hiya. When I joined ICL in Manchester I was expecting to work from there. Within 2 weeks I was sent to Letchworth development centre to write some software on a 7502 workstation to convert IBM protocol (2780 and 3270) to interface with ICLs XBM. I got the 2780 working and had stated the 3270 side when ICI took us off the short list. Then came ICL's October revolution in which my department disappeared! I was then told to go and chat to managers of 2 different departments and tell them which one I wanted to work for! All the others in the team chose the manager in Birmingham and I chose the one in Stevenage. I got fed up with keep driving to and from fro to Stevenage so when the opportunity arose to work in training in Manchester I jumped at it. Having said that I spent a lot of time also in Windsor at ICL Beaumont and all over the country but I did enjoy it. After 6 years I got fed up with being messed about with re organisations and left ICL to set up my own training business. I did in actual fact do some courses for M&S on S25 which was running the tills in their stores. I also did courses for BT who had S25s in their motor transport division . Eventually S25 was replaced by Unix systems and hence that is what I got into. My last 12 years I got a permanent job with Stayahead Training. I was the only person working up north but again travelled the length and breadth of the UK and also did courses in Europe. I didn't actual finish completely until I was nearly 70 and that was only because of COVID! SA had no pension scheme and my private pension dropped like bullet when the banks had their crash and unfortunately it never really recovered. So I have to be careful with the small pension I have! Good to reminise! Cheers Duncan
