RAF Crash Boat
These are photos of my build of the Kitshack 46" RAF Crash Tender. it is powered by 2 brushless motors through two esc connected via y lead

at last I took it for its first run on the lake and it went like a dream,can't tell you how good it looked lots of interest from others,its running on twin Emax EL4030/10 motors,two Hobbywing 60 brushless speed controllers and four 18.5 volt 5s1p LI polymer 4000 mah 35c batteries .what can I say but a really good kit from speed line models,would love to build the trent now but don't think the wife would let me go missing for another year in the shed but fingers crossed

RTR minI electric speed boat with proportional 2CH RC. 280mm loa (11")
Good boat and fast. Watercooled brushed motor. Normal problem with commercial mini-boats is lack of proportional RC but this is fine. Battery life about ten minutes - low freeboard and takes on water but electrics/RC have proven resistant to regular swamping!

- blackgoldRecruitI liked your boat. I also have an 11 inch boat with an extended exterior rudder that brings the length to 13 inches. Mabe the exterior ruder helps to keep water out of the boat this sort of rudder is seen on gas boats in usa.I liked your boat. The fast one
Fibre glass Arrawana 22 inches less than a kilo,brushless 3600 kv 60 amp esc runs on 11.1v 3cell . Pretty fast but still exp with props
Two refurbished Yeoman Wavemasters
Two Wavemasters, both refurbished ebay rescues, sailing at Crealy, near Exeter (one of the last times as the club can no longer use the water).
The first, rebuilt by Kalamunda, is brushless with NiMh cells and the second, having it's first sail since being rebuilt by Ian Gardner, has a Graupner 700 with 3s Lipo's (in parallel) on a 37.5mm X type prop- Electronize 30amp esc.
I think these are lovely looking old boats designed by Les Rowell of Aerokits fame, and obviously based on traditional cruisers from the Norfolk Broads- see Martham Boats, where you can still hire a wooden craft like these, although you'd definitely have the river inspector after you if you sailed up the Thurne at these speeds!

I really fancy a new IP Engineering one but have too many other projects on the go to make it a sane decision! I have to say my WM is the best running of my faster boats, which include a Lesro Sportsman and a Rapier. She seems to hug the water in turns rather than bounce around, so a great design I think. I'd be interested to hear how you arranged you gearing on your WM. Did you make it up or but a ready made unit? Ian

On the water with 7.2 volts but will also run on 9.6 volts and 11.1 volts 3 cell lipo's. I will try and get a photo of the motor and gearbox. Sea Nymph
Not Strictly Aerokits!!! Bought this and a Sea Breeze at the Warwick Show. Sea Breeze is in the cupboard for Xmas. Sea Nymph is Ivory and Brunswick Green. it has a JP 400 motor with an Mtroniks 15 amp esc powered by a 7.2v nicad. Currently it has a 35mm S prop. Haven't had a chance to try it out on the water yet. Maybe this weekend. its the first wooden boat I've ever built so am quite pleased with the outcome. Looking forward to the Sea Breeze as that's going to be my first brushless model.

Hobby King F1 Tunnel.
Finally managed to get a fellow club member to take some video for me.
This is a hobby King Tunnel hull boat, running a brushless motor and 11.1v 3 cell.
The weather was a bit windy, hence the rough sound, the water too was slightly choppy, any worse and I would of not run the boat, too risky flipping the hull over !
The boat itself was yet another ebay "rescue" item, sold by "cash converters", all I say it was a great pity the previous owner could not afford to keep it, its a fantastic piece of kit, and so, so much fun to handle. he also did a superb job of applying a different set of decals and repainting it, so thmbs up to this guy, hope that some day he finds this site and the video clip.
Your boat is still being appreciated and being run "as it should be - full throttle"

- GreggSub-LieutenantIts an exciting "ride", full throttle is not for the faint hearted [ha ha]. its a total difference to my normal sailing modes, as Im more used to "scale sailing", so being let loose occaisionally can be fun too. veron fast patrol boat
Built from a Veron plan, had to do the lofting myself!! Got two brushed motors in it at the moment, hope to maiden it tomorrow(2/9/12). Hash up of the Trinidad and Tobago boats. Not real scale but enjoyed making it.

Now I know what the limits are and I just didn't have a big enough fuse in. I'm having just what you describe with batteries being too far astern- I'm going out Monday to try them in the middle of the boat. Also hoping to get some LiPos when I have decided on a make. Hope the new motors and fans work out and that you get some good shots on the water eventually. All the best...Ian

All the best...Ian - sharpy1071Chief Petty Officer 2nd ClassHI Ian, well the original motors came from a discount store, £2.00 each from memory, they work Ok in my USS Crokett, but I have no glazing and the hot air can escape! I think the sequence went like got hot, melted fan, fan fell off, jammed Motor, fuse blew. I couldn't get any water cooling pre bent from Westbourne so will make my own tomorrow. I have opened up the funnel a bit more on the side and place louvres over the hole, I will get a photo. I did use LIPOs (turnigy 3cell 3500) but now have gone over to A123's much better I have 3 in series X 3 in parellel Giving 6600 MAmps @ 10.4volts.These are very safe batteries, almost unbreakable, I use them in my planes they weigh a little more than LIPOs but a lot less than Gel cells about a quarter and can be forces charged but you would have to sail all day to flatten them. First trials after upgrading the hull to brushless motor, instead of original 550 size motor. this test was on a 2 cell 7.4v lipo, I did try a 3 cell, but the stretch of water we use isn't long enough, I run out of water too quickly, so for now, 2 cells power it is. its still a handfull on turns, as the turn fins will take some setting up to get the best out of them to maintain a degree of speed, rather than drag factor off the turn fins.

Just theorizing I'm not sure though if two would be the answer, I wonder if they might actually hinder. With a single plate of the right size placed centrally the boat would be still be restrained from too much sideways roll yet not lose any directional control being able to pivot on the single plate, where as two plates would tend to act like two fixed rudders and be hinder to turning. I also fly planes and I agree with Dave M about fine control, if using a computerized radio dialing in both rates and expotential helps compensate for over enthusiastic waggling of the sticks and is nearly always required for fast craft particularly first time out. Three wooden boats restored or built by Kalamunda.
The first boat is a restored Maycraft Mercury, then an Aerokits Sea Hornet. The last is a replica Yeoman Minx. All are powered by brushless motors.

Purchased secondhand, upgraded to a proper motor esc rather than the original/factory on/off micro switch for the motor power. Running a graupner 600 race motor and 7.4 lipo, basically just to run the brushes in on the motor before raising the battery voltage,
bit of a shaky video but try holding the transmitter and filming at same time on your own [ha ha].
it does have the capacity to move a ot faster, but would sooner work the motor in fully first
