bits and pieces of deck fittings to be placed. New phot shows where we are. The partial print showing below is a painting of HMS Caroline in dry dock. Spent fives years in the RNR here in Belfast on board her.
Currently powered by 2 x 480 brushed on 11.1v, both motors independently controlled by 2 ESC but soon to be refitted with 2x 1000KV brushless.
Planes beautifully and with twin rudders turns on a sixpence!
- boatyChief Petty Officer 2nd ClassThat's an excellent running time for a fast model.
😀
It gives a great indication of what can be achieved with brushless motors.,
I'll have to try brushless motors in some of my fast scale boats. I only have one brushless powered model at present, this being the Proboat Blackjack 29 fast electric.
Boaty
Powered by a 1000kv brushless on 11.1v, its quick across the water and very stable.
I sail with the Potteries MBC in Stoke.
- circle43nauticalChief Petty Officer 2nd ClassBRAVO ZULU! Nice boat, it reminds me of my brother's 13' 1956 Penyan that he completely restored back in the 90s. Love the mahogany btw.

- lesfacPetty Officer 1st ClassHi figtree7nts,
The reason it can pivot pretty much in its own length is because it is fitted with a bow thruster.
In this case it's a Raboesch model
The two main motors are Emax BL4030 brushless motors running with Hobbyking 90 amp escs. I power these with two 5 cell lipos batteries in parallel.
The Raboesch bow thruster has a brushed motor rated at 7.2 volts and this runs through an esc for brushed motors. (I was lucky to have one ready after I converted one of my boats to a brushless motor). I power the bow thruster with a 7.2 volts nimh battery pack again left over after going to brushless and lipo batteries.
Les - figtree7ntsAdmiralHi Les, fantastic job on your lifeboat! I'm thinking I'd like to build a pilot boat, maybe the one from aeronaut. as long as the model is made of plastic I'm good anything else and I'm lost! hope you don't mind but I think I'll put a bow thruster in mine also.
On my Sea Scout (little brother of the Sea Queen) I used silicon sealant (a la bathroom!) and a small brass screw in each corner. it had to be good cos I had the RX, RX battery and rudder servo tucked in there!
My boat was also started by Dad in the sixties. He had it free running with a Taycol Target and wet (very!) 6V lead acid cells. I upgraded to RC and Decaperm motor about 25 years ago and am currently restoring and converting to brushless 😲
Happy boating, Cheers Doug 😎
