False keel and Engine Room Deck!

Today I installed the false keel.
It has to be trimmed as the keel.
Is some what narrow toward aft end!
So, I used my trusty Dremel to trim.
The false keel which is 10 mm squared x 580 mm!

I also glued the main deck support
This was done using paper clamps!
I put a clamp every few inches.
Ran a bead of thin Cyano!

Did this a few time till I had the whole main deck support glued!

Acrylic Rudders, Oh My!

Today I also worked on one of her rudders!
The new rudders are made of Acrylic Plastic!
They used to be made of brass!

Its very time consuming assembling them!
First you have to take apart the Acrylic pieces!
Be very careful! It splinters easily!
It's almost like working with glass!

Oh, It helps to have Acrylic Glue!
You can't use any other glue.
But that's made for Acrylic Plastic!

I had purchased to different viscosities!
As I wasn't sure which to use!
I ended up using the thin viscosity

I had never worked with Acrylic Plastic!
There's a first time for everything!

I took all the acrylic pieses.
I put them on a piece of tape.
So the tape could hold the pieces in place!
I then ran the glue across the pieces!

You have to make sure the pieces.
Are tight to each other!
The glue starts to hold within a few minutes!
It'll take 24 to 48 hour for the glue to fully set!

I have one completed and one to go!

I am currently working on purchasing.
The old fittings kit which comes with the brass rudders!

I decided to assemble the Acrylic Rudders to show.
What they look like!
I find them to be weak in design!
And look forward to getting the Brass ones!

This is what's holding me up!
See the rudder post are high in the hull.
And you also have to tighen up.
A small nut that holds the rudder in place!

It would be some what difficult to reach.
After the deck it laid!

So, for now I'll work on a few things!
Once I have recieved the Brass rudders.
It'll be full steam ahead!

    Thanks Rooky,

    Slowly, Slowly I'm getting there!

The Acrylic rudders are to me a bad design!
Who know how long they'll last!

Soon, I will be ordering the brass ones!

    Cheers, Ed

Kort Nozzles and Becker Rudders!

Kort Nozzles supports were easy to assemble!
It about 6 pieces of formed ply!
Just had to glue them together!

Set aside to dry!
Oh, I didn't have wood sealer.
So. I used thin Cyano to seal the wood!

I'm sure others may disagree.
With that technique!

But, It's just temporary.
Until I can order some Ezecoat!

After working on the Becker Rudders.
For a day and a haft!
I am finally finished with assembling them!
They should completely dry by Saturday morning!
Surprisingly, they do work!

But, I feel that the brass ones will be better!

Tomorrow Saturday, I will be laying the deck!
As after working with the becker rudders.
I found I can disassemble them when needed!

But, may have to glue them in place.
After, I receive the brass ones!

Kort Nozzles, Shafts and Shaft Supports installed!

Kort Nozzle are now installed!
After installing the Kort Nozzles.
I installed the shafts!
I used a disk measuring 31mm in diameter!
I drilled a 4mm hole in the center.
To accommodate the shaft!

I then pressed the disk into the Kort Nozzle!
This gave me the center of the Kort Nozzle!
I then measured the shaft!

Did this for both Port and Starboard sides

I also had to find the proper position.
Of the Shaft support.
Once I found it using the disk in place.
I marked where it was to go!

I also marked the other side as well!

The shaft support are two pieces you have to glue together.
And in the center goes a 2mm screw.
Which is used to strengthen the shaft supports!

The shaft support are glued in place.
But, You have to find the center.
Where the shaft support go.
Drill a 2mm hole. Then place the Shaft support.
Put the tiny nut, It measures about 4mm!

Now, The Kort Nozzles also take a screw!
You have to find the center of the Kort Nozzle Platform.
You then Drill a 1.5mm hole in the center!
Place the tiny Screw. Screw it in place!
Now the Kort Nozzles are Secured!

Main Deck!

I laid the main deck today!

I had thought of using PVA wood glue!
I had done a test on some scratch wood.
But, I didn't like how it let go to easily!

So, I used Slow Cure Cyano Glue!

Let me tell you, You have to work.
Very fast as the cyano starts to dry quickly!
Any way I put a 1/8" bead all around the deck.
Flipped it and placed it as quick.
And as accurate as possible!

I used Duck Tape to hold the deck in place!

I then used green Model Putty around the deck!
That is to cover the seam between the deck and the hull!

I'm still peeling glue off my fingers! LOL 😁

Now, I'm currently waiting for the green putty to dry!

Having waited 1 hour for the green model putty to dry!
I sanded down the whole entire deck!
I also sanded the green model putty!
The deck is nice and smooth now!

and the crevasses are also filled!
Everything is nice and smooth and even!

Bulwark Support & Bulwark Installed!

Today I worked on her Bulwark Supports!
There are 71 in total!
And they go in sequence from Aft going Forward!
It's a bit time consuming, But isn't that what we're doing!
Using up time!

The Bow section had to be steamed!
I had never done this before!
But, was fairly easy to do!

It took about 35 minute of steam.
Using a pot of boiling water!
and slowly bending it to shape!

Once the shape was achieved.
I then glued it in place!

OK, I'm not sure why!
But, I started on her Starboard side Bulwark!
The forward section of the Bulwark.
Has got to be cut to accommodate.
A slight bit of an angle!

This I figured out by placing the Bulwark.
Against the Bow Bulwark!
I then drew a line on the Bulwark and cut it!

I started to work on the Port Side Bulwark.
But was tired! So, I'm calling it a day!

I will continue tomorrow!!!
For now I'm going to hit the Rack!😴😴😴

Bulwarks Completed!

I spent a few hours steaming ply today!
At least I now know what it's like to steam ply!

I continued to glue the port side bulwark!
After not gluing my finger to the bulwark. LOL!
I then had the task of working on her aft quarters!

And yes, More steaming ahead!
By now I was use to it!
I steamed the aft quarters one at a time!
There being Port and Starboard sides!

I worked from the bow to the stern!
Each piece being sanded to fit!

All while steaming the ply parts to shape!

Patients paid off!

I used my trusty green model putty.
For all the seams!

There are bigger seams that I need to fill!

But, that will be tomorrow!

And for now at least the bulwark is completed!

I put on the caprail.
Just to see what it will look like!

I'll glue the caprail on.
After the Bulwark is sealed!

Oh, there was quite a bit of sanding as well!

Hot dog! She’s looking good. You took your time and the results show it. One question, I see in the comments a reference to “green putty”. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of it, but most of my modeling experience comes from building airplanes. Is it made by Squadron? I know they have a green putty for plastic models.
Anyway, keep at it, she’s gonna be sweet.

48 EyeLets!

Today I worked on her Eyelets!
There are 48 in total!
Which have to be glued to the Bulwark!

But, That's too easy!
See, the holes for the Eyelets are 2mm.
The Eyelets are 3mm!

So, all 48 holes have to be drilled out!
That's easy But,
Waiting for the drill to charge was Maddening!

As Usual I had forgotten to charge my drill!
It took all day for it to charge!

Then by the time it had charged.
It was too late in the evening!
So, Had to wait till the morning!

All the Eyelets are in place!

I did a bit more on the seams around the Bulwark!
Tomorrow I will do more of the seams!
That green stuff is great!

Just be careful of the fumes!!!😂🤣

Sounds like you need a new drill Ed. Mine takes around 1 hour to fully charge.
The build is coming along nicely. Just a quick question though.
How many nozzles do you have at the moment😁

Seams and more Seams!

Today I spent the whole day.
Working with the Green Putty!

There were more seams than I thought!
So, I puttied the bottom.
Of the Bulwark seam.
As, I didn't like how the seams looked!

It might be able to be seen after being painted!

So, the wife and I went to see the grand children.
And I left the puttied Bulwark drying!

We got back a few hours later!
And sanding the Bulwark I did!
Spent about a hour sanding.
The bulwark now the seams.
Are nice and covered and smooth!

There's a bit more detail.
To be put onto the Bulwark.
But, That'll be for tomorrow!

Hawlspipe and Bollards Completed!

Today I worked on the Hawser pipe!
Which were tricky to work with.
They're small so had to keep.
My tweezers from sticking to them!
Luckily there's only 5 to work with!

I also worked on the Bullards.
They're not totally completed yet though!
I like Bollards with caps on them.
I think I'll put caps on them!

Oh, The Cap is the very top of the Bollards.
It keeps the rope from popping off the Bollard!

I think putting the Cap.
Will give the Model more detail!

Also keep the string from popping off
When I go to tow my model barge!

Tomorrow, I will complete the Bollards!

Then start working on her superstructure!
Here comes the fun part......🤞
