As I am currently waiting for the Kort Nozzles.
They should arrive in a few weeks time!
In the mean time!
I am in the process of purchasing.
With the Help of my good friend RON from Canada.
The original Billing boats Fittings Kit!
Which RON found and thought of my project!
Which have the original Brass Rudders!
The newer kits come with Acrylic Rudders!
They don't seem to look very strong!
I am going to build the Acrylic Rudders.
Just to show them being built!
So, for now I will play the waiting game.
There's no rushing planned on this build!
But, eventually I'll start the build!
Once I have recieved all my parts!

Look what I received in today mail!
All the way from Denmark
I'm getting closer to starting my build!
All I need is my scribe and the fittings kit!
Then I will start the Build of the Tug:
Smit Nederland!
Oh, I do have another pair coming from Canada.
Can't have too many Kort Nozzles!

How good would it look with four nozzles. Or six nozzles, Or eight nozzles. Or.................................................................................
Hi Marky,
I think Admiral Ed is tricking us, he said he is building a Tug but secretly he is going to clue all the nozzles together and make a Submarine LOL!
Ok, I've been waiting for a scribe to arrive.
But it hasn't arrived yet!
Getting bored just waiting around.
And not being able to work on the Smit Nederland!
So, I brought out my new Xacto kit.
And the excess flash was scribed.
Very carefully going around the hull.
I went around some 8 times!
Being careful to follow the scribe line!
Then on the bow and the stern.
I made cuts going down to the scribe line.
These cuts I made every 10 mm!
I then bent the flash back and forth.
Also scribed as well!
The flash came off piece by piece!

My last three kits were by Dumas Models!
There instructions were very well written!
Having built my last three tugs.
By Dumas of course!
Has given me more knowledge.
On what to do with a more advanced kit!
In this Billing Boats kit.
You better know your way around the build!
Or have a lot on questions!
Next I have to steam her Bow and Stern.
Supports which are of 2mm thick ply!
Having tried to steam her supports.
I have found that the ply delaminates!
Which is a problem!
But, I have surplus wood at the ready!
See, it's the bow and stern area.
That use plywood sheets!
So, what I'm going to do is.
Use 1/4 inch dowel Square of course!
Cut about 1/4" pieces times X!
To go around her Bow and stern area!
This will also solve.
The delamination problem I encounted!

Bow section supports glued in place!
Next I have to cut more 1/4" spruce pieces!
Port and Starboard side are Obechi strips!
Which are glued and used for the deck support!
After cutting a whole bunch of squared spruce.
I glued them in place as well!
The Obechi strips are to be glued next!
But, I need Thin Cyano.
Which I am out of!
Going to have to order some!

Ed, do you have a Hobby Lobby up your way? We have them down in Texas, kinda like a Micheals craft store. They have a hobby section, balsa, ply, styrene sheet, and they have their own brand of CA. I’ll bet money it’s made by Bob Smith Industries and packaged for them, but it’s good stuff. Thin, thick, medium and kicker too!! Better than the gunk they sell at Lowe’s or Home Depot.
Cash
OK, after checking the fit of the deck.
I have noticed the the deck is to big!
It's about 1/4" too long!
Now what?
How to solve this problem?
I tried pulling on the hull!
But, it's deffinately too short!
The Hull is 33 1/8"!
And the deck is 33 3/8"
What to do?☹️
No matter how I try.
I can't get the deck to fit!
It's too long for the hull!
Dare, I cut the deck?
So that it can fit the hull!
No one would know!
I don't want to grind down.
The bow or stern of the deck!
But, If I cut amidship it would be OK!
Anyone have a recommendation.
As to how to handle this problem?
The hull is ABS and the deck is 3mm ply!
Help what to do?
Ed,
THE MOST IMPORTANT tip given here is -
"first check if the bow and stern fit properly".
Remember while doing this that fibreglass and moulded plastic hulls tend to pull inwards at the top edges after release from their moulds!!! 1/4" does seem a bit excessive though! But then the bigger the hull the bigger the problem 🤔
I've often noticed this problem with moulded plastic kits.
So expect to have to push them back out a bit to fit the decks. Gently warming the hull (hot water - no blow torches😮) helps to do this.
Having done that if bow and/or stern fit OK take an appropriate slice out of the deck amidships.
Before you do though check carefully if the deck beam is correct and matches the hull beam, and where you can take a slice out without creating a gap at the bulwarks.
When I prepare my HMS Manxman hull, before I glue the deck supports in, I will check the width and fit of the deck at various points and glue in some appropriate stiffening cross beams to ensure that I do not distort the hull when glueing in the deck supports. This is not in the Dean's instructions but I consider it to be a prudent precaution😉
Cheers, Doug 😎
Surely Ed you must have some packaging of food items that come in a carton or box packaging? Taco shells? Sugar? Salt? Popcorn? Soda Crackers? Pasta? Wax paper, Aluminum Foil? All these are products that might come in a carton versus plastic pkg.
OK, I've ordered some medium and some thin glue!
I do have some on hand.
But, Over time Cyano tends to thicken up!
And I can't glue the deck support to the hull!
So, once I received the glues.
Which will be this Monday!
I'll be able to glue the support strips in place!
Then onto fitting the deck to the hull!

I had emailed my contact their at Cornwall Model Boats!
I was told that he has been in constant contact.
With the folks in Germany!
I just have to be pacient.
Which I have been.
All, I want is working componants!
But, I know what you mean.
Sure is taking an awful long time though!
Well, I finally got a chance to purchase.
two pieces of poster board.
To use as a template!
I had measured the hull.
It measured in at 33 1/4"
But the deck is 33 3/8"
So, I traced the deck on both pieces of poster board.
making sure the template measures 33 1/4"
I then placed the template on to the deck.
Then drew around the bow and the stern!
Next, I will trim the excess!
Having carefully trimmed the excess.
The Deck now fits the Hull!
It has a comfitible fit! LOL😂🤣
I was very worried about trimming the deck.
I had thought of cutting the deck.
But, the simulated ribs.
Which will be place in on another step.
Would of not matched the bulwark correctly!
So, Thanks to all on your advice.
Of using a template.
The advice worked like a charm!👍👍👍
I had never had to cutdown a deck before!
There's always the first time!
I had ordered some glues.
Their scheduled to arrive on monday morning!

Problem is neither I or the missus eat cereal!
But, The poster boards just cost $5.00.
And it had been raining here for a few days!
So, even any cardboard that was outside.
in the trash would have been soggy!
Now how many times.
Do you want to test an LED But can't?
Well, I know I get tied of hunting for a small wire.
To test my LED's!
So, I splerged $3.00 for a cheap LED tester!
I'm hoping I don't blow myself up with it! LOL!

Hoorah! 🎈🎈 At last Ed!👍
Seem to remember suggesting you get one months ago while we were designing your Brooklyn lighting circuits! 😉
Better late than never Admiral😉
Best o' luck with the new build🤞
😎
The Smit Nederland comes with shafts.
They are all brass!
Don't know how they will perform!
The Shaft are easy to assemble.
You just have to.
Put the bearing on the shaft sleeves!
It helps to use a hammer!
I found that after I assembled them.
The shafts wouldn't go in to the bearings.
So, had to drill the bearing a bit!
But after doing so the shafts.
Went on and could spin freely!
With just a bit of tension!
Next, I had to drill the bosses.
I made a small template.
Circle with a divider!
Used this to find the center of the boss!
Then drilled the boss using 1mm drill.
Then increased to 6mm for the shafts to go though the Bosses!
Having found the center of the Boss and the Center of the Kort Nozzle support.
I then drew a line from the Boss to the Kort Nozzle support.
This line will be used to center the Shaft Support!
