Yeoman / HMM
Two Yeoman / HMM boats- both salvaged from e-bay and thought to be at least 55 years old. each having had most of internal structure removed. no drawings available so had to guess where 'bits' were needed. The smaller 'Minx' is powered by a brushless Turnigy Aerodrive SK286. The 'Wavemaster' has a brushless KD Thumrun 2387/18 and an EZ Run 18a ESC - supplied by Giantcod. First runs at Crealy - 29th July.
Thanks to Ian for the photos.

Thanks for your comments - I have seen the pics of your Wavemaster and they encouraged me to finish this one. I have seen an advert for the Yeoman Minx from around 1960 and the retail price was 21/6 - about ÂA£1.08 in todays money.

That's great to hear, there seem to be a few more out there now. it was launced in 1952 at a price of ÂA£3 12s 10p, designed by Les Rowell when he was at Hammersmith Model Makers (HMM) just a couple of years before he left and started Aerokits in 1954. I shall look out for a Yeoman Minx!

Great pictures - are you sure you had a fully charged 3300 mAh battery b before use as 10 mins sounds a very short time to me ?

hI there tall paul yes battery was fully charged but I think boat is over propped with 35mm three blades, Im going to try two blade 32.5mm and see if get better duration with same speed

Vintage speedsters at Crealy.
These two boats were refurbished by Kalamunda. The first is a Lesro Sportsman and the second a NorStar Wave Rider. The Sportsman has a Graupner 700 on 8.6v and the WaveRider a brushless motor. The on board camera was arranged by Kalamunda and other video shot by Ianed57. The water is at Crealy, Exeter, the home of Exeter and District Model Boat Club.

Very sad the fishermen have taken over Crealy lake. No more model boats.

It is indeed sad and these videos remind us of happy times spent there. We srtuggle to find a suitable alternative. As the old song says-'You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone!'.

John. I have a nor star Wave Rider hull only,in good condition, but minus any cabin or rear deck. Can you post any pictures showing the cabin and deck off the hull I could use as a guide to complete my boat.Sorry this is a bit late, Dave...

Aerokits 34" Fire Tender
I have rebuilt this from a damaged ex IC model. Borrowed a plan from a club member and managed to reconstruct the missing bits. Originally used a fast electric car type brush motor with 7.2 v nicads. Worked ok but nothing spectacular. Recently ventured into brushless and LiPo. Tried an inrunner but ran far to hot and not veryt fast. Changed to an Outrunner (mork torky apparently) and nearly took off! (it is a seaplane tender but should stay on the water!) The LiPo is 11.1v 2800MaH. I use a Graupner Ultramat 16 charger, don't use other than a dedicated LiPo charger and ESC. Battery misuse can result in pyrotechnics, so beware. initialyy tried a two blade racing prop but have changed this to a 29mm 3 blade brass prop to slow down the speed. I have also added more lead and will advise the final weight once I have tried the model on water. I sail with Crewe and District MBC at Boundary Park, Nr Knutsford in Cheshire.

Which motor did you choose and is it necessary to water cool it?

fasr brushed set up
here is my Fireboat after extensive testing of motors, batteries and props. Full details in "power set up".

Its about to have a gearbox fitted, this should enable me to fit a larger prop, and get longer run times, hopfully!
