Speed line kit completed a year ago. Sails well and is fun to handle. Has done many hours on the water and is still in good shape considering the conditions I have subjected it to.😎

I don't recall exact time. it was over two years ago that I got the kit but I do recollect having to wait a little.

Here is the last of the Lowestoft sailing trawlers. Model built using working drawings kindly supplied by the Sailing Trust. Model about 12 years old. I got a little carried away on detail! As expected she sails and handles well as all the old work sailors do.
Drop keel and rudder extension added when sailing. I was intrigued to discover that the deck winch was steam powered,no doubt to help with taking in the trawl net.

    Hello,
Just spotted your boat, I love the gaff-rigged working craft. Built one, a Falmouth fishing boat, and I plan to do more. Your boat is very impressive, nice quality workmanship and attention to detail.

If you don't mind I am curious about a couple of things. is it plank on plank? Did you fiberglass over the hull or just paint. What kind of wood do you use for planking.

I to, work from old drawings plans with lines and offsets.

    Great work!
    Regards, Joe

    Hi Joe,
In answer to your queries, Hull was built in the bread and butter system using deal sealed inside and out with coats of yacht varnish and painted using acrylic. Subsequent models of Wherries and Chinese Junks were plank on frame using 1/8” balsa strips sealed with resin, varnish inside and out, with again acrylic paint.
Balsa easier to work with to gain experience - reasonable effectiveness both in carvel and clinker planking.
All the best and good sailing.

A superb looking boat, if you sailed it in Liverpool would it be a Wherry across the Mersey?😊

I remember sailing her as a kid with the Braine gear which I didn't fully understand She certainly had a turn of speed

She had been raced in 1952 by her original owner and carries the Sheffield Model Yacht Club registration on her sails 1061

Very realistic and nicely sailed model. The Solent Class were not fast afloat boats and had a max speed of about 9 knots so its nice to see a scale model sailing at a realistic speed.
Well done and thanks for sharing the build and final on the water video

I quite agree Dave, the MFA 850 motors at 4/5ths chat push her along at a very pleasing and hopefully realistic speed. Ive enjoyed this build and had alot of pleasure posting myn progress, hopefully its been enjoyed by all and if its given anyone else some inspiration, even better.

Please feel free to watch my Vosper RTTL build elsewhere! kind regards simon

Titan
This Titan model was built originally by my late father Don Newman in the 1950's from a Model Maker design. She has always sailed well and apart from some short lay-ups,she has remained active over the years. Various upgrades in her electronics and lighting mean that she is a very effective model for night runs. in1954, she was operated by H.M. Queen Elizabeth during an official visit to the Hydraulics Research Startion at Howbury Park

I don't think that Her Majesty understood the principle of R/C. if you look carefully, you can see that she is the lady in the pale longish coat facing right. I think that she is holding the button box of a typical ground-based TX. She almost has her back to the model......My father worked as a scientist there and met many dignatories. His POW - learned German meant that he took Willi Brandt round the site on one occasion.

Truly a beautiful model. Electric drive? Waverley underwent extensive refit and repairs at Gt Yarmouth here in Norfolk many years ago when I saw the paddles up on the quayside. Grand old girl still going strong.
