Fire Boat 38

Finally finished the project. This boat was built from scratch. I took pictures and measurements from a real fireboat that I operate. I built it on a 1/12 scale using wood that I had left over from scrap. This was my first project boat. I was able to get a lot of technical information from this forum. So thanks guys. I have really fallen in love with boat model building. I have wired the boat and am waiting on two model electric outboards to mount on the transom. it took almost 6 months to complete. 🕊

Love the look of it, awaiting the plans for my next project and like you will be scratch building her. To anyone interested if you are modelling about 1/32 scale and are looking for scale crew and get stuck purchase wwe 2" high micro wrestling figures. There solid plastic and can be cut about and re-modelled using hot glue to any position that you want. Coat with unI bond before using air drying modelling clay to sculpture the clothing. Let dry and apply a couple of coats of unI bond before painting with Humbrol or similar paint.

New motor & battery test at Crealy

34" Fireboat
I tried out my new motor arrangement, ( Graupner speed 600 8.4v motor with a single 9.6v battery pack as recommended by dbninja ) in my Fireboat today. A bit choppy but all went very well at just above half throttle then I began to get braver and added on the power to be met by clouds of smoke and a truly blown ESC. ( See FORUM under Hong Kong ESC ) The new Fire Monitors by Peter HS93 also worked fine using a Vauxhall Astra washer pump, I'd hope to get pics but the sudden halt intervened!

My monitors were kindly produced some time ago by another member of this site who was unfortunately at the last request unable to make any more. You might like to have a go making suitably scaled down versions in the method shown by Pete Harvey on his 46" Fireboat restoration on his website ( link in the 'Useful Links' part of this site ) my initial effort was to try drilling out some white metal fittings- this only proved the soft cheese is probably a more suitable material!
Water is pumped to the monitors using an ebay sourced Astra windscreen washer pump which works fine on my 9.6v setup.

Just to mention that Monitors for the 34" boat are available separately from the 'Online Shop'section of this site. ( Don't think they are working however )

Vosper 73' ASRL

Here's a photo of the initial on the water run yesterday at Crealy of the Vosper 73' ASRL I've been asking for help with in the forum .
Not yet finished with deck fittings & rigging aerials but performed very reasonably. it has a JP Power 480 motor driving a 25mm 3 blade prop. Powered by a 6v 4Ah LA battery with a RadioLink 2.4ghz RX. and a 15A Mtronics ESC

R.A.F. Crash Tender "On Board"

This is a video clip of my Fireboat at Southport boating lake in June this year.

The idea of an on board cam was thanks to another member who submitted a video last year of their Sea Queen (see video gallery), I liked the effect so thought I'd give it a go myself. it seems to have worked?

Crash tender speed check

Further to discussions on the forum these pictures show measuring speed with a Garmin Geko 201.
They were taken 30/11/08 on a partly frozed lake, Bradford Moor, West Yorks.

preliminary hull shape - still a ways to go - will spend at least a couple of hours each day if I can and try to have the final drawings available on the forum before Christmas. if anyone has any original vosper hull lines, would help a lot.

Fireboat scratch built by Steve

The boat has no name as yet, it is scrach bult from two photos. I found in a loft as usual. it is about 25/30 years old, she is powered by a darke horse 785 turbo with a 2.5 to 1 gearbox and two 9.6 volt 3700maH NiMH bateries and a 50mm 3 bladed prop, sailed at our local lake.

The boat is far from finished and is not to scale as you can see, but for a first time build it looks pritty fair out on the water. Just one last word, many thanks to all the members of the forum for all your help.bit of a muck here lads the photos were in the loft,the hull I bought for £30.and every thing else is scratch built.
