Bunker Boat
Bunker Boat-
A bunker boat is a purse seiner after menhaden (AKA bunker, pogy, alewife, shad). The fish is use in animal feeds, fertilizer, paint, cosmetics, and its oil has commercial value, It's not a human food fish. The Atlantic seaboard is the largest fishery and a huge fleet of these boats, all architecturally similar, were maintained there. Some sources call the menhaden catch the most important commercial catch in American waters.
The plans for this model are loosely drawn after the Helen Euphane, a 114 foot 293 ton steam powered example of the type. She was built in 1902, and served temporarily in both world wars in the Coast Guard, as a minesweeper and patrol boat. The last history I have of her is from the 50s, at which time she was still working the fishery.

U.S. Navy PBR 31Mkll. Patrol Boat River.
This is a vessel that I'm building from scratch. To achieve accuracy I will be using a Tamiha 1/35 scale kit and scaling that kit up to 1/9th scale for the vessel I am building. it will measure up to almost 1 metre in length.

    Hi BOATSHED,
The wooden block is screwed and araldited ti the keel and supports an Aluminium bracket designed for holding a Brushless motor in an Aeroplane, use what’s available I always say.
The coupling is Silicon tube fitted to brass universal coupling fittings and because the way brushless run is very quiet compared to a normal Unversal Joint assembly.
    Will post it running shortly.
    Thanks for you interest. Graham

PBR - Patrol Boat Riverine
Proboat Alpha - ready to run, model of PBR, Patrol Boat Riverine, used by US Navy during Vietnam conflict, served 1967 -1972.

Images show basic detail, 1/18 scale, with crew. Bow gunner servo is linked to rudder. Comes with Navlights, looking forward to a night sail.....some painting added to weather craft, as well as painting radar housing a lighter grey....and the canvas roof over wheel house....a little artistic licence with vessel numbers......Brown Navy did'nt always have numbered vessels....but could'nt help myself.

Bravo Zulu Chaps😉

Patrol Boat Riverine
Proboat Aplha - ready to run.......model of Patrol Boat Riverine used by US Navy, Vietnam between 1967-72. Basic 1/18 scale able to attach small action figures for added dimension, model always look better with crew.

Great starter....already looking at larger scale military kits and really impressed with Deans Marine product range, unfortunatly little options to explore in Australia....so have to order most stuff in....vids will get better with experience...stay tuned.😉

Just fresh off the shipyard, this is my version of an American made Uniflite (firm died several years ago) "Salty Dog" 28. its name is a Puerto Rican slang for escapade. From the same firm who designed and made the legendary Vietnam War Patrol River Boat (PBR), this boat was part of Uniflite's recreational boats line. For this one, I utilized a fibreglass hull I found on Ebay and did the rest with Ethylene 2mm plastic sheets. it runs a 9.6v NiHm battery, a 30A Mtroniks controller, a 3-bladed 35mm M4 bronze propeller.

3rd hand boat Through an amazing co-incidence I know the builder. This video was a test of it in water for the first time with me at the helm. I was pleased it went well. I will put in in my harbour soon.

Fast Patrol Boat
At Ilfracombe pond is Bob Burrows Vintage Model Boat Co kit of the Fast Patrol Boat. Bobs made a nice job of it and has brushless motor with Lipoly batteries. Forward / reverse control was nothing special on maiden voyage and came close to a good sinking !!!

It's nice and fast but doesn't seem to want to turn very well. What is the rudder like is it too big and also how much leading edge has the rudder got. I used to have this sort of trouble and went for a slightly smaller rudder and cut away the leading edge and it solved my problems.

So, here's my current project in the works. I got a nice 25-inches Deep-Vee fiberglass hull a while ago and now (finally) have a concept for it. Almost by accident I came across a plan for an American bass boat which in turn reminded me of a boat that caught my attention when I was a kid while reading a boating magazine. The boat is a 28-footer from a now defunct firm named Uniflite. it was a small deep-sea sports fisherman called "Salty Dog". Uniflite was very well known within the American boating circles during the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Uniflite created and supplied PBR river patrol craft to the US Navy between 1965 and 1972 for rivers in Vietnam using an already existing pleasure boat hull and adapting jet nozzles for propulsion. So, I just created a prototype template of the cabin so more to follow 😎.
