47 posts · Page 3 of 4The Ellis boats must have been the inspiration for this old kit from Midwest. I bought the boat as seen in the first photos which was built by Don Sutton, Metro Modellers Toronto, Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦
He knew I had my eye on making one from scratch and offered me a fair price to buy his boat.
I am now adding the hard cover over the cockpit as seen on many of the Bunker & Ellis boats.
Previously I added deck furniture to the helm and passenger. Also found the near scale figures.
My plan is to add the forward railing around the bow; add deck boards and more furnishings such as two step boarding ladder, navigation equipment, and possible a fresh coat of paint to the hull.

- cormorantLieutenant CommanderHi ColinHi Colin Yes, I did brush paint the deck with an inexpensive acrylic. The sand mix was trial and error. I started off with a thin mix and gradually added more sand, testing it on scraps of plastic, until I was happy. A brushed coat of satin varnish waterproofed and added to the realism. Best of luck. - hammerLieutenantThis is a very quick way to make a hull. First remove the silver paper from one side of the foam & reduce thickness to the distance between the stations. Starting at the widest mark the station include the centre line. mark on the on the silver side, cut out square. Continue fore & aft. Stick them all together aligning the centre marks top& bottom, hold in place with cocktail sticks until the PVA is set. Carve the square edges down to the silver at the smaller station. Mark the lines of the plates, cut the plates 8-10 scale ft. 3ft wide max. Simulate rivets before glueing with polyurethane wood glue. The edges of the outer line of plates over lapping the inner use super glue (thick verity) Hope this is clear. hic! hic!!This is a very quick way to make a hull.
