To anyone interested if you are modelling about 1/32 scale and are looking for scale crew and get stuck purchase wwe 2" high micro wrestling figures. There solid plastic and can be cut about and re-modelled using hot glue to any position that you want. Coat with unI bond before using air drying modelling clay to sculpture the clothing. Let dry and apply a couple of coats of unI bond before painting with Humbrol or similar paint.
- circle43nauticalChief Petty Officer 2nd ClassBRAVO ZULU! Great work on your maiden project. I also love using scrap & leftover template wood.
- circle43nauticalChief Petty Officer 2nd ClassBRAVO ZULU! NICE BOAT! 1:12 scale is great for detail. Now you have the RC fever, right?
I belong to a recently formed club sailing on the lake a Queens Park, Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire. New members would be most welcomed.
- Dave MVice AdmiralRealistic looking model. Low speed high tork motor would suit this. Model Motors Direct do a 555 which is excellent for most scale boats. What ESC are you using?
You can post details of your club in our Model Boat Clubs section, which should help any prospective members find you. 😀 - HoweGY177Petty Officer 1st ClassHi, I am using a Perkins 5510135 Marine 50amp esc and am awaiting a 25mm diam 300rmp motor from Hongkong to replace the Johnson 600 that is already fitted. it's a suck it and see job as I have no experience in the boating field my previous hobby was flying electric planes with lipo's and brushless motors. Going to fit proportional steam simulator, fog horn and whistle, have already fitted sound generator representing the 3 cylinder steam unit that would have been in the real thing. if you have any experience in the electronics field I would welcome help on esc requirement to power twin graupner 700BB Turbo motors.
- jelley_babyChief Petty Officer 1st ClassNo not my working area, but the wife lets me take photographs there I have a good shed to work in and make whatever mess I want to when ever I want to. Graham
Vic Smeed plan Thornycroft took about 20yrs (on and off) to complete and has an Electronize 43HX 24v 15A controller, 2x 400 sized 6-12v brushed motors 4cell 3000MAh LiPo for main power with seperate 3 cell LiPo running a computer fan for cooling (fan is linear and sucks air through the boat from the front hatches and blows it out through the rear hatches) There are also seperate 3 and 4 cell AA NmH packs for nav and interior lighting.
Boat runs 28mm 3 blade props and runs at a realistic scale speed and attitude. Radio gear is 2.4 and I have modified one TX for twin throttles and at present am running both these boats simultaniously on the one TX.
Have bought twin car ESCs, batts, RXs and BECs for the PT and the (36") British Power Boat 64ft HSL I am building (modelled on the RNZAFs 64ft HSL- the only one sold in the southern hemisphere - in 1940) Went on board as a teenager before she was ruined by being turned into a pleasure launch so it was a help with the building. Still remember the wonderful alloy 'Power Boat' stair treads down to the ward room. Will get some pics up of the HSL as well.
The pleasure I had building and sailing this model has inspired me to to look for my next aerokit project.
Hopefully that will be the Sea nymph this was my first attempt at building.
- larrywhettonPetty Officer 2nd Classthank you peter it uses standard 540 ,turning a 30mm prop ,7VT power I would like more but don't no how aim begin er to model boats cheers Larry
I think its a modified Aerokits fire boat or Sea queen,
The deck is different because it steps down, the cabin looks to be modified, the hull is all fibre glass with wooden bulkheads.
Nice 10cc Merco engine.
Will upload more recent pics as the pics are from about 18 months ago, I've since started re building the boat to sail then in future sell.
- Merco61RecruitAbout the fibre glass hull it looks to be ply with a thin coating of fibre glass.
It's roughly 34" long.
The guy who the boat used to belong to had a couple of aerokits boats as well as this one, he had a sea queen and another boat but I cant remember the model name.
from looking at other boats the only boat I can really compare it with is the sea queen.
I will be uploading the boat with or without the engine on ebay in the next couple of months, I have two merco 61 marine engines that will be on ebay soon. - froggyt996Petty Officer 1st ClassHI it is ST LAURIE made by LAWRENCE MANUFACTURING 106 Lawrence Road liverpool sold for A£4. 10 shillings or A£4.50p to days money in the 1950 fiberglass hull and cabin roof ply cabin sides length 42in beam 12in
I started building the boat in the mid nineties and it has now had a repaint- it always been a favourite. This video was taken in the early noughties at Crealy in Exeter.
Decaperm, MonoPerm motor ? was wired for 6 V but very slow so have fitte a Viper Marine ESC and wired for 12 V - not sure if it would take 18 V - any advice would be appreciated.
As no pond near Camberley I boat Sunday mornings at the Stoke Park pond, Guildford. Not a large pond but great for scale and small to medium speed boating.
Second picture of a Skimmer scratch building (plans from Model Boats magazine Sep 2007) - work in progress.
