In every yard sale find you come across a box that at first you think its just a bunch of junk .But I came upon a half kit with lots of parts missing The Swift 1805 . The model boat club I'm in did a show at the wood show in Caledonia so I bought a sheet of plywood just for this Swift's keel & frames . I also found a Bluenose model that had masts broken in Needed of some major repairs.

This time I want to show the process after removing the now sanded hull. You get a first view of having me removing the frames and starting to fill lead into the wooden hull. in the last photo, you can appreciate the benefits of removing all frames from within the hull. The surface inside the hull is ready for further processing.

Sooo glad you went for wood and not paint👍
BTW How did you manage to enlist God's help?
Didn't know HE was a model boat enthusiast!
But then again HE did command the building of the Ark 😁
Yours tongue firmly in cheek, Doug 😎

Scratch built from a 1975 free plan, hull is balsa frames sheeted with basswood and covered with 3/4 oz fibreglass cloth, superstructure is styrene sheet, missile launcher from balsa block, forward bofors torpedo launcher from styrene sheet and wood dowl, photo etch ladders, white metal handrail stanchions, other fittings are brass and resin, lw-02 radar and directors are from shape ways rudders and stabilizers are balsa block, you get the idea.

A very nice execution of the old Model Boats free plan. I still have those plans (somewhat tatty after all these years) as well as the MB magazine they came with. How does she sail? Best regards, Glyn

Many thanks for your kind words, I've not sailed her yet, only test tank and had to up the water line a little bit for more stability, I also scaled up the plans to true 1/96 as the plan is around 1/100, the 1/96 fittings I bought from fleetscale were out of scale to the plan, and using the 1.1 water line length noted in the magazine article.

Scratch built in 2004 from my own plan. Two layers of planks on ply frames, ply deck planked with 3/8 1/16 strips. Length of hull 50" by 13" breath. No motor sail only, winch for main & mizzen, sail arm for fore sails. Featuers a centre plate lowered by gravity and raized be a drum winch, also an expanding rudder, this has two servos to opperate. sails can be reefed or removed depending on weather conditions. Very good sailer Just goes in my car with the top mast & gaff boom lowered.

Sorry for the delay Cap'n, please don't keel haul me. Have posted 2 sailing photos. Reefed right down in a blow & in a breeze. Close to rocks no problem. HAMMER.

Very good looking model. I agree with the size and how good she looks on the water. Wind, Water and Wood has always been my favourite moto.

I built this one about 3 years ago she is built at 1/24th scale 50"long and is a plank on frame hull , scratch built using lime wood planking and 9mm ply for the frames and keel, the rest is birch ply of various thicknesses.
she has a 12volt cooling fan motor driving a 4" prop, and has a 12volt 48amp hour battery ,plus some lead for ballast, with working lights and revolving radar scanner

HI Ralph we have a launchung crane at our club so it is not really a problem with size and weight, most of my big tugs actually weigh less than 30lbs without the battery and ballast, I use 46amp hour gel cell batteries where possiblt and then trim with lead blocks ,the Atlantic Cock has her battery plus 3 x3lb lumps of lead so she goes into the cradle light, then is loaded and launched mechanicaly simples really and no bad backs. George,

Since my last posting I have spent weeks stripping the paint, refilling where required and have had to make new roof and floor sections, worst part has been been the front windows as these were totally rotten once the old paint was removed, and making new ones was hard because the old frames they attach to is warped. I still have not fitted them yet as I'm looking to paint and glaze first.

This is my 46 inch fireboat. it is a 1960s Aerokits model that I was given about 18 months ago only partly started (frames and stringers). it is powered by 2 x 770 watt brushless motors with 4s lips and has working monitors and an Action Noisy Thing sound system. it is pictured here at Tynemouth boating lake where I an a member to of the Tmbc.

I'll get some pictures when I next see it as it is kept at my Mums place in the NE where the lake at the Tynemouth club is big enough to take it given its speed and size. if you are blowing fuses, make sure you haven't over greased the shaft. I did that once and really only a light greasing of the inner shaft and some light oil on the bearings is all that is required. Also try a smaller prop. You may not get any reduction in Speer as the motor may rev faster and at lower amps. I've just taken the 50mm 3 blade brass props off mine and put 45mm 2 blade plastic racing props on and she runs faster and smoother. Hope this helps.

I've just taken the 50mm 3 blade brass props off mine and put 45mm 2 blade plastic racing props on and she runs faster and smoother. Hope this helps.
Just a few more pics of ML1302, rudders and A frames are home made and scale brass props are used.

This is GRP hull and a part vac-formed cabin and the rest is scratch build using plastic card! Fittings are from my own range along with the crew. Prop shafts and "A" frames are home made along with the rudders which are to scale form John Lamberts drawings.
Two Groupner eco600 motors are used connected to a 6volt cell lasting around 3 hours running.
