Rear Admiral
African Queen at New Brighton
Completed (nearly, still a few more crates needed) in July after a 2 year build on a Kingston Moldings hull. Not a scrap of plywood has been used, all made from Oak, Mahogany, Beech and brass. All fittings scratch built, boiler from Maccsteam in Macclesfield, engine TVR 1 A BB from Macclesfield model engineering supplies. Runs on 60/40 butane propane mix. Radio 3 channels used on Futaba 6EX 2.4 ghz set, 1 fo1 for fwd/reverse, I for steering.

Maiden voyage.
One or two little issues. Kept losing radio reception even at close range. Need to fit the satellite receiver in the nav cabin methinks.

    Thanks, Dave.
    It's 2.4Ghz and a new servo.
The receiver is velcro'd to the underside of the deck.
I'll place the satellite in the roof of the nav cabin and see how it goes!

    HI Neil
More than likely your aerial is below the waterline for some time and I know from personal experience that this will cause loss of signal. Mine was in a Trent Lifeboat and still gave problems until I arranged for the receiver to be well above the waterline with the aerials pointing up.

BRAVO ZULU! I also love the test tank, I'm investing in a 12 x 6'er next spring. My latest builds are getting too big for the tub!
It's great that you get your kids involved; I feel that RC is by far the best
entertainment: Helos, planes, trains, autos & especially BOATS!
Heck with the video games I say!
My gr'daughter loves learning to fly the helo or me chasing her around with it. My goal is to get good enough to land on the tiny flight deck of my 1:48
USCG 210' Cutter while underway, without getting wet, of course.
HAVE A SAFE RC BOATING DAY!

Mersey Ferry Rose
This boat is scratch built on a Fiberglass Hull. The Lily was one of two ferries built in 1900. Her sister ship was the Rose.
The superstructure of the model is largely light-ply and paneled to resemble the orginal. She had an open top deck and as you can see the navigation pods were open to the weather.
A semaphore signal arm was included as radio was not yet used to communicate with each other on the Mersey.
The model is approx1/48 scale and built from a couple of photos and sketches that exist. She is powered by two 340 electric motors and controlled with 2.4ghz radio. A 12 volt battery gives the power. Both decks are individually planked.
She has sailed at Hoylake.

" Elsie & Olwen "
A scratch built model of a Gloucester USA fishing schooner 1900 era. Pine plank on frame, 2 channel radio with a Lego 9volt drive unit as sail winch controlled each way by servo and micro switches, the deck is planked on a thin ply sub-deck and deck openings are sealed with Vaseline. The deep keel slides up into a box through the keel and secured with a bolt.

    HI Lubberland,
A boat after my own heart! Looks really good. Like the level of detail, even if you can't see it on the water. Which sails are controlled by the winch?

How successful is the sailing peformance with all that sail area aft?

    Regards,
    Cap'n Jim.
  • lubberlandAble Seaman
HI there Cap'n Jim, Glad you like it. The sails are all controlled by the winch line round the after deck. I'll try to post some pics soon, Cheers, Lubber.

As a regular traveller on the Woodchurch I would suggest your model is a very realistic representation. Paint wise the real boat was far from clean or well painted and in places the rust was all to evident.
It was a well loved and trusty vessel and I am sure I am not alone in having many happy memories of cross river trips on her and her sister ferries.

Traineira Brazil Boat
💀 Hello friends, I am sharing a kit that sells here in Brazil. This is a fishing boat, a motor included in the kit 380 brushed, propeller shaft, pipes, all made of balsa. To put my touch to the lighting, did the radio antenna, put some flags. Detail is left with the box of fish that are rice painted with spray paint aluminum.
