This is my work in progress plus some nice angles of my boat. Colour scheme obviously not conventional but I like it. its some way off its maiden launch and this isn't the intended motor- that is still in the post! it will be fitted with a Graupner 600 8.4v and a Viper 20A ESC.This is an ebay purchase and came with some original brass items and an IC engine - hence the modification to the motor mount.The boat will probably sail initially at Blackheath.
Hello Dave,I'm looking in to relocting the single servo and as you say the rear well would be ideal- my servo linkages are soft soldered to rudder via a long rod -? would that be the usual way of making the linkage?, I might need to look at this area! Also I think I need to keep all the units off the hull base and secured to a bulkhead ?

Soldered indicates the vintage of your model. Can be used but better solutions available. Don't understand why you fear the hull base. The lower the weight the better for stability. I will post a couple of pictures of my setup so you can get the general idea. Will have to post on your other blog re this boat. Cheers Dave
My Sun Tug MK25 version, originally adapted from a Lesro Sun Tug Kit, actually still being built [not quite yet complete] but seaworthy enough to get some testing time in the water. it has more than enough power to haul my dusseldorf along when the batteries are flat after some time sailing, so rather than pull the fireboat out, decided to let the tug do some work.
Powered by a hectoperm motor with 3:1 gearbox,twin 6v gel batteries,water pump to operate the fire monitors,engine sound, nav lights, interior lights [cabins] rotating radar scanner,
My own Dusseldorf,powered by origninal robbe navy direckts as these give more than sufficient power to propel the boat at a reasonable speed, all fire monitors operate to fire water and rotate, nav lights, radar, engine sound and fog horn.
First outing in 51 years for my 1/16th scale Seaplane tender, built originally by my father in 1953 and believed to be an Adamcraft Kit, found with a damaged hull and virtually no superstructure in the loft of their house after my mother had moved to a residential home several years ago. I had moved to Lyme Regis in Dorset where several of these craft were based and which was my fathers inspiration for building this initially, so I thought it time to try and restore her.
I had some difficulty finding plans of the ST and eventually bought and built the Deans Marine 1/24th version of this craft, which I then scaled up to rebuild the original.
Power is by a 600 motor with 2 channel radio and seems to work
well on a 7.2 v battery pack.
I've now joined Exeter & District MBC as it appears to be one of the nearest to us in Lyme and the pics show the ST on the Dragonfly Lake at Crealy.
I would be interested in any info. anyone might have as to Adamcraft as my searches have turned up very little. I believe they specified a Tacol electric or Mills 1.3 petrol engine at the time, but my memory might well be flawed as I was only around 10years old at the time.
I built this kit in early 1977 while stationed at RAAF Amberley in Queensland. it originally was engined with an Enya 35 and at some time later ended up fitted with an OS40.
It travelled around Australia with me and ended up in Perth where it has been stored in my shed for approx the last 20 years - I now have the time to restore it and and do a conversion to electric drive.
Can anyone please advise as to electric motor and speed control that I should be looking at and where I might be able to purchase a fittings kit.

for a wide ranging list of power set-ups for your boat, scroll down the list on the left of the home page to "all things RC" then scroll down the pop-up menu to "power set-up" and there they all are! my own 34" I use a graupner speed 600 8.4v on 9.6 numh's gives the boat a really nice sit in the water and doesnt cost an arm and a leg. but there are loads more options such as outrunners and lipo batteries etc.
fitting kits are still available for the 34" boat in the uk, just scroll down the "fireboat" page to find the contact details. good luck... it will be worth it
As mentioned in one post. I mentioned that I had bought 3 spark Ignition engines some years ago which had not seen daylight for some time. Dug them out and took a photo or two if anyone is interested

Yes the 4 cylinder is the Seal. Surprised to find that the castings and build instructions are still currently available for these! The middle one is a Channel islands Special. Don't know much about these as I 've never heard of anyone actually using one. They were available (like the Gannet) as an aero engine. Hate to think about the size of plane this would need. Third photo , as you say, needs no introduction
now that is realy nice, it looks better than I rember mine when it was new, has yours got the plastic/ bakelite or alloy cap for the oil. did yours come in a felt lined box?

I think its a modified Aerokits fire boat or Sea queen,
The deck is different because it steps down, the cabin looks to be modified, the hull is all fibre glass with wooden bulkheads.
Nice 10cc Merco engine.
Will upload more recent pics as the pics are from about 18 months ago, I've since started re building the boat to sail then in future sell.
About the fibre glass hull it looks to be ply with a thin coating of fibre glass.
It's roughly 34" long.
The guy who the boat used to belong to had a couple of aerokits boats as well as this one, he had a sea queen and another boat but I cant remember the model name.
from looking at other boats the only boat I can really compare it with is the sea queen.
I will be uploading the boat with or without the engine on ebay in the next couple of months, I have two merco 61 marine engines that will be on ebay soon.

This boat was scratch built from Harold Underhill plans, available still from Brown,Son and Ferguson. The hull was mahogany on 6mm ply frames. The engine was a Caton from Maxwell Hemmens supplied bya gas-fired Cheddar Puffin boiler. The propeller was a two inch four bladed brass job from Rivabo I think. The displacement of the boat is 25lb- a bit of a lump to carry to the water but it does work well once in the water. She has now been converted to electric using a MFA geared 540 type motor witha 7.5ah lead acid gel cell. Looking again at this video I begin to wish I had left it as steam but there is something to be said for 'switch on and go'.
I started building the boat in the mid nineties and it has now had a repaint- it always been a favourite. This video was taken in the early noughties at Crealy in Exeter.
Steam launch designed and built by me. I used a computer program called Plyboats to design it and it is a double chine ply hull. The power plant is a twin cylinder Cheddar engine, the Pelican I believe, which was a vee twin. The boiler was designed and built by me being a 3'' dia vertical firetube, gas fired.
This video was taken at Crealy in Exeter one summer evening in 2003 as a fairly new boat. She is now in need of a little TLC.
32" RAF Fire Tender being restored by Salv Bambino
HI all. This is an, RAF Fire Tender 32" that was given to me 30+ years ago by a friend who was going to scrap it. it's been stored in my garage loft all this time. I am about to start the restoration of the boat but havn't done any modelling since I was a youngster.
It has no running gear but was originally powered by a nitro engine, I am hoping to convert it to electric power, the problem is I have no idea what type of motor to use or what length prop tube or prop sahft is required, I don't have any drawings or information about the boat. I am presently cleaning and rubbing the panels down so that I can re glue most of the joints as thay are mostly starting to come loose.
Will post some more photos as I progress.
Dave, I have removed the prop shaft because it was bent and the resin around the prop tube/hull was cracked it was also worn quite badly. I need to purchase a new tube and prop shaft once I decide what motor to fit, I can then decide on the length of prop shaft. Thanks for the info.

As the name suggests, this is a scratch build sort of tug. The hull is based on a (very small) Pinacce photo of a model steam open boat. I did not fancy making a steam unit (time is the problem) and I had had an idea of doing a tug for quite a while. I liked the shape so started in the usual way. I wanted to keep the cost down and so almost everything is scratch made, though a few bits were "borrowed" from where I work - an engineering firm. Most of the work on this model is more of an experiment for my next tug which will also be from scratch but will have everything working. The "Archer". The winches are at the moment none working, the doors do not open, I have no idea if there is any tug that looks anything like this but I am very pleased with the result. I hope you like it.
